MIRRORED FRIENDSHIP

MIRRORED FRIENDSHIP

Friend.
Someone who you can lean on when life gets hard,
When pain enters in.
When no one else cares, listens, or is there
For You.

Friend.
Someone you can trust
To hide your secret crushes, your secret thoughts, your secret feelings
But knows when to speak up when your secrets shouldn’t be secrets.

Friend.
Someone who stands up for you
When everyone else is mean and rude and disrespectful.
Who says “No” when you are too weak or too scared to say it yourself.

Friend.
Someone who knows the best of you
And the worst of you.
Who loves you enough to put you In. Your. Place.
And knows when to give you your space
Or a Warm Embrace.

Friend.
Someone you can laugh with, cry with
Do life with.

Friend.
Friend.
Where is this kind of friend?
Is she even out there?
Does she even exist?

Why do I surround myself with people who hurt me?
Who Desert me?
Who lie TO me and about me?

These so called friends that walk away when things get tough.
What? Am I not good enough?
For you?

Who see the worst in me more than the best
And forget all the rest
Of what it really means to be a FRIEND.

No, No more.
Today, Today is a new day.

It is time for me to stop letting people destroy me,
De-fuel me,
Use me,
Abuse me,
And throw me,
Away.

Today, today I will look for a real friend.
But first,
I need to look at the reflection staring back at me
In the mirror.
